■:-.

College years pass rapidly and this year seems to be no exception. It
is our hope that It has been a successful year for you. You have made
new acquaintances and friends many of which will last a lifetime.
May the experiences that you have encountered add to the goals
you desire to achieve.

I know that I speak for the entire administration, faculty, and staff in
which for you the best as you meet the challenges of each day.

May this book serve as a reminder of your days at East Central.

Sincerely,

Miss Gloria Johnson, Mrs. Gall Wood, Mrs. Anne Burkes, Head Librarian

LIBRARIANS

Burton Library is open sixty-five and one half hours a week to serve the reference and reading
needs of East Central students and faculty. Housed in the new 15,488 square foot structure, the
library can seat two hundred and fifty students at one time. There are nine private study rooms
all equipped for the use of audio-visual materials, and a large conference room is available for
group viewing of taped materials on television.

Over 26,000 volumes, more than 1,000 pieces of ausio- visual aids, and 125 current periodicals
are available. Sixteen workers serve the average daily usage of one hundred and fifty-four
students. The average book circulation is nineteen volumes per day. The academic faculty
makes the primary use of the library for academic students through assignments to be done by
the student outside of class. The vocational-technical faculty makes wide use of the library
materials through a check out system through which the materials are used by the instructors
with the students In class.

Interesting and timely exhibits, collections, and memorabelia are continuously on view in the
glass cases In the library lobby. Colorful displays, informative bulletin boards, and the always
available assistance of the librarians and student helpers help to make the library a very special
place on campus.

But our players did much more. They helped to present an exciting
DINNER THEATRE and a marvelous MUSICAL. They worked at lighting,
sets, make-up, costumes, pubicity, programs, directing, casting, danc-

THE FASHION SQUAD TREATED US TO A SPRING FASHION
SHOW ONE APRIL NIGHT

May Day, a forty year tradition on campus is a part
of our past, now, but we have high hopes that two
new happenings will become TRADITIONS. We all
took pleasure, pride, and "shivers" in our live, sing-
ing Christmas Tree presented by the ECJC choir at
night on the front campus. It was beautiful and In-
spiring!

Black History Week was also highlighted on campus
as a first. It was a memorable and enlightening
experience In molding new pride from past
achievements. We encourage the Wesley organiza-
tion to continue sponsorship of this activity.

ROTC always brings a variety of actions to our campus.
Helicopter rides, rappeling, field trips, and even hypno-
tism. Never a dull moment. Spring semester showed 112
students enrolled In ROTC making ours the largest enroll-
ment among the state Junior colleges. The ECJC Cadet
Association was also organized to facilitate military and
social activities of interest to ROTC students. Officers
were elected: Sheila Whitten, President; Eddie Lawrence,
Vice-president; Shannon Richardson, Secretary; Peggy
Smith, treasurer; Evelyn Murrell, Sophomore representa-
tive and Vlckl Hamrlck, Freshman representative.

The ROTC also provided a special color guard unit for
football games, parades, and other special occasions.
ROTC was taught by Sgt. Major Royals, Capt. Dannie
Tennimon and Sgt. Ewlng Lawson.
